Good on you Ian and Lorraine - the rest of the list should respond as well .
Digital Photographs of Monumental inscriptions provide a worthwhile source
of information to people researching family history - and I hope a few more
people volunteer to continue the good work they do.
It's a bit like why buy a book when you can join a library
It wouldn't be so bad if the prices charged for the books and CDs were
reasonable.
I am sure by far the majority of people consider that the prices asked and
charged are pretty well off the planet.
The thing is that once you have the information you require why then do you
need the extraneous 99.9% of information that is included.
To my mind the sender of the original complaint has had things far to good
for too long.
If he can see fit to vent his spleen in a list like this then so can a few
others make him aware of what things are like in the real world.

But the societies are not selling transcription books are they, which is a
big fund raiser which goes toward operating costs, more resources like
newspapers and CDs, microfiche and other things. People want information
anyway, how is it supposed to increase the demand?
Fair enough, I can see the benefit of having an index of headstone names on
the internet, like what most councils and cemetery trusts are providing,
that's really good and helpful, but photos and inscriptions I feel detracts
from the publication of books.
