Dear Listers

A bug bear of mine with certain groups claiming to have ownership
information in the public domain............I have been researching my
family history for the last 17 years and due to having a young family and
limited income I had to find the cheapest ways of conducting my research or
should i say spending my money wisely..... Over the years many,many,many
people have helped me in my research for free or for limited return and for
that i am truly greatful...I in turn give my time freely to anybody wishing
to research families in the Mackay district. I have had stand up arguments
with people from other organisations who charge at a premium and disagree
with me giving my time for nothing and have called me an "idiot". It is my
personal decision however if it costs printing or postage then i will let
them know but only as reimbursement.......
Family Research can cost big money if you want it too and as with any way
to make money people will get on the bandwagon to make a few bob...I am
told that small organisations make their only income from selling
information and that is a valid point but if it is in the public domain I
cannot see anything wrong in publishing information over the internet or
any other media if it is too help people and not for profit.....
My point is I have seen over the past decade or so Government agencies
charging so much for user pays that it is making research harder and harder
and more expensive. So if someone is prepared to do something off their own
backside and do something to help the wider community than they have my
thanks...
My time is precious but one thankyou is enought to make it all worthwhile,
my late mother told me give a little generosity and you will get it back
tenfold.
