Death of an Old District Resident - One by one the older residents of the
district are gradually passing away. On Saturday night at his residence,
Carrington-street, Horse-shoe Bend, there passed peacefully away after a
brief illness, in the person of Mr. William O'Brien, a very old resident of
the Hinton district. A little over 50 years ago the late Mr. O'Brien
emigrated to this State from Ireland, and soon commenced farming in the
neighbourhood of Hinton, and despite the drawbacks of floods and
unproductive seasons, continued to follow that occupation with more or less
success until the great flood of 1893, when he gave up the pursuit, and has
since been residing in Maitland. He had attained the ripe age of 71 years,
and was highly respected by a large circle of friends. He leaves a widow,
and a numerous grown-up family. The funeral is announced for 3 o'clock
to-morrow afternoon.
