Ann O'Brien
ALL mothers are special, but Ann O'Brien will always be regarded as having been very special.
The second child of Herman and Caroline Loweke, 'he was born at Caboolture on January 30, 1906. Ann attended primary school in Caboolture and later boarded at Brisbane Girls Grammar School.
She married Bill O'Brien in 1927. The couple lived in Kilcoy for five years before moving to Forest Hill and then to Laidley in 1937.
After Bill died in 1967, Ann remained in Laidley until three years ago when she went to live with her daughter Dorothy in Charters Towers where she died on Saturday evening, July 6, aged 90 years and six months.
Ann had 12 children, 47 grandchildren, 101 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
While in Laidley, she enjoyed playing cards and attending the Senior Citizens' Club. She remained alert until her death; playing scrabble and doing crossword puzzles.
Ann is survived by Irene and Warren Maslin, Daphne O'Brien, Molly Luder, Jim andTess O'Brien, Dorothy Lowe, Tom and Veronica O'Brien, Kathleen Rick, Joe and Glynis O'Brien, David O'Brien, and Judy and Jack Scott. Three sons - Robbie, Jack and Fred two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren predeceased her. Ann was laid to rest next to husband Bill at Laidley cemetery on July 11, 1996. She will be sadly missed by all her family and by all her knew her.- JIM NICHOLLS. July 21. 1996.
