Dear Lister and especially, to Elfriede,
My mom called me today. I said, "Hey, Mom, I have a surprise for you! Listen
to this," and I played the simple piano tune from the tape. She was amazed
and delighted. Then she said, "Well we sure think alike: I looked through my
songbooks and I found a bird song in my piano music, but it was a different
one. It was about a mother bird with a message in her beak for someone."

Now I would like to hear some artistic renditions of "Wenn ich ein Voglein
war". I only have the simulated piano melody. What do you suggest and how or
where can I find one? Was there a famous singer that made it popular? When
was it the most popular? In the 1920's and 1930'?
Thanks a lot!

Judy Faust
