Dear Dietrich,
Please tell us about yourself and why you started the list.
I joined because my great grandfather was in the Austrian army 1860-67.
His regiment (IR 35, Pilsen) fought in the wars in Denmarkk (1864) and
Bohemia (1866).
In 1862 he was a member of the Vienna military security police and his duty
was to ride a white horse around the Ringstrasse in a group of six policemen.
I would like to know more about the Vienna military security police -- where
they lived and trained in Vienna and if they had a special uniform. I would
also like to know if there were any special records kept about the men who
were selected for this duty and where those records are.
I understand that the security policemen were always men who could read and
write and who were taller than average.
I would like to find a picture of a military security policeman in Vienna
during the 1860s.
