Hi Bobbie! Greetings from Victoria, BC. Canada
Civil Registration didn't begin in Scotland until 1855, so you won't find a
civil death certificate, which would have given you the husband's name as
well as her parent's names, etc. Before that time, the ministers of the
established church were (supposed) to register the vital stats in the parish
registers. Unfortunately, some of them didn't, and some adherants to the
Free Kirk didn't have their marriages solemnized in the Church of Scotland.
However you should check the parish registers for Dundonald. The easy way to
do that is to check the indexes to these Old Parish Registers (pre-1855) on
CDROM in the LDS Family History Centre near you. Search for a marriage of
Sarah Slater somewhere around 1835-1840 (presuming she was about 20 or 25
when she married) to someone named Hall in Dundonald Parish. If the entry is
there, it will give as a source the FHC Film# for the parish, as well as the
frame number on the film. Order out the film and turn to the frame number
and you will have the original record.
You should also find the birth of Sarah Slater Hall in 1835 on the same
CDROM. It will give the parent's names and the location of the birth in
Dundonald Parish (presuming that's where she was born).
The Census of Dundonald parish for 1841 should give you the Slater family,
and 1851 should yield Sarah with her husband *****Hall and any children she
may have had. If she married young, they may even be on 1841 census. Again,
these films are available through the Family History Centre branch library
near you. If you're not familiar with them, look in your phone book under
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The FHC's are located in the
church.
Hope this helps.
Good hunting
Dot Stutter
