This census district would appear to be the northwest extremity of
Girvan parish. Grangeston is shown in an 1850s map as being some one and
a half miles north east of the Girvan mouth, somewhere in the direction of
the present day rail line heading into neighbouring Dailly parish. The
same old map shows Curra and Curra Farm on the coast road almost half way
from Girvan town to Turnberry. On a more recent map a feature in the same
spot is called "The Curragh".
