Hi,
I am new to this list and I'm researchin FINDLAY in Ayr.
I have a John FINDLAY born c.1850 in Irvine.(1881 census, residing in Glasgow)
When I look on IGI, I come up with 11 matches for his birth, not 1 in Irvine.
Can someone tell me if any of the following places are close, so I can discard the rest.
Ayr, Sorn, Kirkoswald, Newton-on-Ayr, Dunlop, Loudoun, Kilmaurs, Dalmellington,
Riccarton.

Also, does the naming pattern of eldest son- grandfather apply in this region?
