Dear Judy,
Thank you so much for posting these! My husband's mother (Nora
Brown 1912-1968) was from Kilmarnock (she died over 30 years ago, so
i never got to meet her). Her family (father John Brown, mother
Christine McGill Brown, sisters Jeanne b. 1914 and Marion b. 1918)
left in 1928, when she was 16, for New Jersey where she met my
husband's father and where my husband was born. It's so nice to see
how life was when she lived as a girl in Kilmarnock. We will visit
there next summer and try to find the house where she lived (we have
a wonderful book of maps from the very helpful Mr. Ewan Steed from
the Ayreshire Chamber of Commerce and found her house, we hope!).
Again, thank you for sharing this history with us.
Cheers to you,
*Kathy Bates
