Hello List. I have a book to hand called Farming in Australia (Ayrshire
Folk) . The book was written by James Dunlop in 1912 (Photo of him also) He
was a member of The Scottish Agriculture Commission to Denmark 1904,
Ireland, 1906, Canada,1908 Australia 1910-1911 so this book was written
1912. Most of the Ayrshire folk seem to have came to Aust in about 1850
maybe your rellie came to Australia will browse thru for names.
On arriving in Victoria Fenwick Boys on the wharf to greet them, Bobbie
Rodger, Rabbie Speirs and Hugh Bicket. He meets the Hon Andrew Fisher
(premier of the Commonwealth of Australia) who was born at Crosshouse
Ayreshire 48 years ago and like his father and brothers before him he worked
in the pits living the while in the cothouse on the farm at Fergushill
tenanted then by Hugh Craig now of Spains Hill Essex. Mr. Dunlop then
travels to Sydney by Train (He is on his way to Queensland) and he is meet
by an old Cumnock native Mr. Hugh McCutcheon, Hugh had been out here for 26
years he was a shepherd before he left Ayrshire and is still faithful to
the Doric .and is now at Albury N.S.W. raising sheep and wool for "Lunon"
That night He meets The Hon.George Fowlds of New Zealand Mr Fowlds is
staying in Sydney and is on his way to the opening of the Union Parliament
of South Africa His appointment to represent N.Z. in South Africa was a
happy one as he lived there for some time and it was there he married.
Will copy the Ayrshire folks that he meet in Queensland tomorrow. (P.S. What
is the Doric?) Betty Raffaele Cooma Australia
