No need to refer to a list of old occupations. My (modern) dictionary
includes in its definitions of the word "hedge" (as a verb) "to enclose with
a hedge ... to make hedges" and defines "hedger" as "one who hedges or
dresses hedges". No doubt hedging was an important activity in
agricultural Scotland when hedges were the main definers of field
boundaries.
