Subject: McILWEE-KILBIRNIE

For ten years I have tried to locate the burial site and date of death
for my great, great grandparents from KILBIRNIE. They were ROMAN
CATHOLIC and I have been unable to locate a Catholic cemetery that was
in the area between the years 1861 and 1869. I really need help!!! As
far as I can determine, they were both buried somewhere in the Kilbirnie
area.
BERNARD McILWEE (McELWEE) was born in Donegal, Ireland. He resided in
KILBIRNIE as early as 1846. He was shown as an IRONSTONEMAN. He married
CATHERINE McQUILLAN (McWHELAN). He died between the years 1860-1869. She
died after the year 1873. In the 1851 census they resided in Kilbirnie
on Cochran Street. In the 1861 census they resided in Kilbirnie on
Dennyholm Street.
Children were all born in KILBIRNIE:
1. WILLIAM McILWEE b. 1846 m. Mary REID on 25 May 1869 in Kilbirnie,
however the name of the church is not shown in the marriage docment.
Father, BERNARD, was shown as DECEASED at the time of marriage.
2. MARGARET McILWEE b. Oct 1848 m. Edward GILROY in Dallmellington on 06
June 1873. These are my great grandparents. They immigrated to America
in 1874.
3. JANE McILWEE b. 1853 m. John REILLY in Dalmellington on 03 May 1872
4. JOHN McILWEE b. 14 May 1855
6. JAMES b. 08 Nov 1857 d. 1860 Kilbirnie burial site unknown
7. HUGH b. 21 Nov 1860
Can anyone out there help me locate any information on BERNARD &
CATHERINE McILWEE? I have just about given up all hope of ever finding
death dates or burial places! Maybe I just need to go to Scotland with
shovel in hand! haha
By the way, I have checked through the Scots Origin (many times!) and
come up totally empty handed.
Sorry this is so lengthy. Any and all help, no matter how small,
would be greatly appreciated!
