Dear Ayrshire Listers:
I am hopeful that one or another of you may be able to respond to the
question that Mike Boyd of Ausralia poses in his message regarding medical
schools. Forwarding his post seems the easiest way to provide
you with the info that leads to his inquiry.
Thanks in advance.
Yours Aye,
Lauren

Mike Marshall of VA in an Email to me yesterday said:-
"I think it is clear from the Penkill manuscripts when James came in 1721,
he was already a doctor. I have found other documents to support this
presumption. I would guess he was either an apprentice in Scotland or
attended university there, and I would suspect the latter."
If has Mike has suggested that he was already a Doctor when he arrived in
1721, THEN MY GUESS IS that he went to either Glasgow or Edinburgh
Universities rather than St Andrews.
Not being a web person, is there anyway of find out from either Glasgow or
Edinburgh if they had a medical school in the late 1710's and if they had a
James Boyd from Trochrig, near Girvan, Ayrshire. As far as can be
determined he was born about 1702.
So would someone like to let the group know that they will do this search
please and then let us of your search.
