I can't see a HIGH GEMMILL on the 1851 or 1861 Ayrshire Census CDs.
Looks as if his family moved on when he was a baby.

Hello list I am returning after finding new info.


New info to hand, found my Hugh GEMMILL born 1841 West Kilbride Scotland
,
don't know how he came to NZ the rest of the family stayed in Scotland
But he married 1866 in Hokitika and had a family ( what we have found so
far) he died 1877 at Nelson Hospt @ 36yrs

Hugh Alexander GEMMILL b 1867 Hokitika d 1950 Reefton he married
Christina DUTHIE 1908

William F.M. GEMMILL (Think F is for Fraser M MacDonald ) not proved yet
b
1868 died 1876 drowned

Robert GEMMILL b 1870 Buller d 1945 married Elizabeth LAUSTEN 1900

James Boyd GEMMILL b 1871 Buller d 1941 Nelson married Alice Emily SCOTT
1897

Ann Fraser GEMMILL b 1872 at Ross

Margaret Boyd GEMMILL b 1875 Westport d 1934 married Francis William
BEIRNE
1903

So there has to be descendants out there still alive. Please contact me
as I
have all the generations back in Scotland..

I don't have children for these folk so hope someone can help.
