Subject: COAL MINING in ALLOWAY (South Ayrshire) ?
Date: Sat, 11 Jun 2005 12:38:03 +0100
'Hello' from David Thom,
My query appears to have upset several respondents, some of whom have rebuked me for the error of my ways! So, apologies to all and an explanation of events!
I included the www.coal.gov.uk/Information/miningreports address as a source indicator, being aware that it was an 'authorised persons only' site, and I apologise for not mentioning that.
[Why is all this secrecy necessary, anyway, when it comes to the location of coal mining activity?]
However, the 'Gazetteer of places in Scotland where a coal mining search is / is not required' is openly available on the internet by typing in "Gazetteer of places in Scotland where a coal mining search is required". [Such are the vagaries of UK government departments!]
I did not reproduce these lists and only referred to one entry but I now waiting to be arrested by officers of the special branch or MI6, on charges under "The Official Secrets Act", or the even more serious charge of "Being interested in history"!
Kind regards
David
