REGISTER OF THE PRIVY COUNCIL OF SCOTLAND. Third Series. Volume 8 (1683 - 1684), page 644, dated 1683.--(1). "List of persons in the barony parish in Glasgow who have taken or not taken the Bond and the Test".--".....George Ross of Galstrich (sic) for his lands of Broomhill.--Absent in Ireland...."
SAME, page 653, dated 1683: (2).--(For those living in the Parish of Avondale).--George Ross of Galston: absent living in Ireland.
N.B.: Broomhill and the lands in Avondale were old holdings of Ross of Hanyng. We know that Margaret, Dame of Hanyng (and her third husband) probably sold the barony of Hanyng to George Campbell, but obviously, these two holdings were not a part of the barony.....These two references almost clinch the matter of the identity the George Ross of Quintin Castle, Kearney, in County Down. Could we be so lucky as to find in Ireland a reference wherein George Ross is being styled "of Galston"?--W.F.
