Hello Margaret, Craig et al,

I have a Robina Bain who doesn't, as far as I can see, fit in here but you
never know what someone else may see. I can't believe it was a common name.

'My' Robina Bain married John Boswell McKie in Govan Lanarkshire in 1848.
But I believe that her husband at least had Ayrshire origins. They had a
daughter Rachel, born about 1850. I have a letter from Rachel's husband
whom she married in 1875. It refers to my g-grandmother Margaret (nee
Morrison) MacKay (in Auchinleck, Ayrshire) as' Aunt Maggie'.

On Rachel's marriage and death certificates her father is reported as James
Boswell MacKay. But I think this is a mistake - that her husband got mixed
up - as Rachel's middle name is Reid and so I think her grandparents were
my ggg-grandparents George McKee and Mary (nee Reid). George and Mary had
at least four sons - William, Mungo, Hugh and James. James married someone
else and lived a long time so it is likely that John Boswell was another son.

Any ideas or connections welcomed!
Mary
