AzLA Friends and Members,

Crunch time is here.

One of the Association's top priorities this year was to have the
Legislature and Governor authorize and fund the Polly Rosenbaum Archives
and History Building. Last week the Senate and the House passed their
budget and included the Archives Building for funding. The budget is now
in the hands of the Governor.

Senate Bill 1401, the capital outlay budget, contains the funding for the
archives building and is awaiting the Governor's signature. The bill
passed 25-0 with 5 not voting in the Senate - the only bi-partisan,
unanimous vote for a budget bill this session. The companion bill in the
House split the vote down party lines.

There is a strong potential that the Governor will veto the bill so we
need to make a huge show of support -- NOW.

Contact the Governor and ask her to support the Archives portion of
SB1401. Fax, email and telephone calls would be best. She will take
action in the next day or two.

* Remind her that we've waited too long (almost 40 years) and this is
desperately needed.
* Remind her of the increased costs (potentially 25% per year) if we
don't start construction now.
* Remind her that this bill passed the Senate with the support of
both parties.
* Remind her that all Arizona needs for this building to be
constructed is her signature.
* Let her know what city you are from. Show her that support for this comes
from all over Arizona.
