If it was the Calvary, I am wondering if there would be some old military records available from reports taken when troops reported back of their finds. If you think it is near Tucson, then I would look into what Forts were operating in that time period close to the area that you think they may have been killed. I know there was a Fort at San Carlos but they chased the White Mountain Apaches.. Geramino and then there was protection I would think near Lordsburg and also maybe Fort Huachuca but I have never done any research on any of the old Forts in AZ and their time period.

My guess is they were traveling the southern route and that would be Lordsburg into Willcox and then the route over to Tucson. That was Cochise and Natchez country, and I don't know what Fort they would have come under the direction of but would almost guess and I maybe way off base but San Carlos. It seems to me that it was San Carlos that made peace with Cochise but Geramino still remained the big problem. Also, you could have had border raiders from Mexico. Also, I THINK Cochise was on the reservation at San Carlos. Like I said, if my father was alive he could answer your questions right away as to who was where but... he isn't.

That is what I figure. Supposedly the cavalry that warned them found their
bodies, but you know how stories go. On the other hand if it was true, I am
sure it would be documented. Someone obviously told family because there is
a headstone in OH stating he was killed in AZ Territory. Now, whether that
was the calvary or a possible survivor of the attack remains a mystery.
Unfortunetly after about 150 years, I don't think I am going to find
anything.
