Hey Mike and other's ...

There is no sign on site, that proclaims it to be cemetery ... at the
north-west corner of E. Van Buren and N. 48th there is a 7-11 market ...
going west from there is a vacant lot "currently for sale" and then next
is the cemetery [although the cemetery frontage is set back a bit from
Van Buren, a couple of the taller tombstones can be seen from the road,
facing the 7-11 market] ... running along the west side of the cemetery
is N. 47th place ... the cemetery is "L" shape [upside down] wrapping
around behind that vacant lot ... the street bordering the back of the
cemetery is E. Melvin St. [I think, the print is small on my map] ...

west across N. 47th Place on the opposite corner from the cemetery, is
some type of auto body paint shop [I think], the side and back streets
bordering this cemetery are residential, facing this cemetery ... from
what I have heard and "seen" [graffiti on the inside fence of the
cemetery (facing the residence), and broken liquor bottles every where]
this appears to not be a favorable neighborhood / area ...

this is considered to be a small cemetery, but it took me an hour to
record, and photograph the 10 intact tombstones and the remnants of what
could have been another 11 or 12 grave marker ... there is a large area
"gap" with no markers between those tombstones up front by the gate, and
those way in the back [in the bottom of the "L"] ...

A thought just accrued to me about that description ... that large gap
between the two sections ? could that indicate, that there were two
separate cemeteries here ? ? ? the only other cemetery known to be in
the area is St. Francis Catholic Cemetery [north up 48th street, half
way between Mc Dowell Rd. and Thomas Rd.] ...

pictures of the Cross-Cut / Williams cemetery can be viewed at this link ...
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hedgpeth/cem_crosscut_williams1.htm

the name that has been attached to this cemetery Cross-Cut / Williams
... the Williams part might be from the Williams graves that are up
front ... they are the first two tall makers on the left in the snap
shot showing the gate entrance ...
