Thought someone from SCVGS might be interested is this trip so I am
forwarding the below message to our mailing list.
If you have never been to SLC to research, this is the way to go!Barbara
Salyer is a GREAT mentor and she is available to help you every hour of everyday
you are in the library researching. I have made the trip with her and Marge
Simons at least three times and can not recommend it enough.
Barbara will also have 'before trip' workshop(s) to prepare you before you
leave here. You will know exactly what to take and what to expect before you
pack your luggage.

Want to go to Salt Lake City to research? Have I got a deal for you.
The Salt Lake City Research Trip is scheduled from October 1-8, 2006. We will
leave Tucson in late morning on Sunday, October 1 and return to Tucson in
early afternoon on Sunday, October 8.
We like to book our trips to Salt Lake through Delta Airlines (SkyWest
link) as SkyWest is a direct flight from Tucson - no stops, no layovers,
etc.
However, Delta Airlines has changed their policies about group travel. I
have booked the flight; however, the entire amount for air travel has to be
paid within 30 days of booking. This means that on DECEMBER 19, 2005, I have to
pay the entire base fee the airline is charging as well as the extra charges
for airport fees and fuel. I also have to turn in a passenger list and commit
to the exact number of seats at that time.
Therefore, although the trip package is only $32 more than last year--$687
for the package and $35 for the ASGS fee (which pays the expenses for the
paperwork, mailing, and workshop copy expense), I have to have a $260 deposit per
person by December 15 in order to book the seats at the group rate.
If we don't have a minimum of 10 people by December 15, I cannot book the
flight. If we do have more than 10, I can book the flight for whatever number of
people who have paid the deposit. If more people are interested at a later
date, I will call in January and try to book another group for 10 - but the price
will probably be different for those who sign up later than Dec 15.
A Salt Lake workshop will be held in June or July 2006.
No wonder Delta is having financial troubles - they surely aren't
interested in customer relations.
I tried to find out from Southwest Airlines the group rates they have and
whether we would change planes in Phoenix or Las Vegas, but SW Airlines will not
even talk to me about a group rate until May 2006. That is waiting a little
late to make arrangements for an October trip.
Please let me know IMMEDIATELY if you are interested in going to Salt Lake in
October 2006. The check for $260 should be made out to Genealogy Unlimited
and sent to Marge Simons, 8353 E. Tanque Verde Rd., Tucson, AZ 85749. Marge's
