Jeanette-
Phoenix Public Library - Burton Barr Central Library branch would have
microfilms of "The Arizona Republic".
The address is:
Burton Barr Central Library
1221 N. Central Ave.
Phoenix, AZ 85004
(602) 262-4636
Phoenix Public Library web page is located at:
http://pac.lib.ci.phoenix.az.us/web/index.html
If you go to:
http://pac.lib.ci.phoenix.az.us/web/servicesframe.html
you might be able to request the obituary via email (I have never tried
this).
You did not specify the city in the Phoenix area. "The Arizona Republic"
will usually have the obituary for the Phoenix area but if there is a
specific city the person died in you may want to also get the paper from
that city. The Burton Barr Central Library may or may not have the
microfilm, depending on the city.
Assuming you are not located in the Phoenix area, you can also request the
microfilms be sent to your local library branch via the Inter-Library Loan
(ILL) department, usually at no cost.
I recommend viewing the film yourself because you can then scan the papers
for a period of time rather than just requesting a specific date. This
helps in instances where you have the wrong death date, or even if you have
the correct date but the obituary is not printed for up to 1 week, or there
is a related newspaper story which you may not be aware of, all of which
has happened to me. I have requested films vial ILL, probably over 100
times. I have had microfilms for newspapers from IL, IN, OH, SC, GA, and
TN sent to the Phoenix public library.

I'm new to this list and hope someone will be willing to help me. I would
like to get photocopies of 2 obituaries from the Phonix area. Does anyone
know if the local library keeps old newspapers (usually on microfilm) or
are
they kept somewhere else? The two obits are from July 1967 and July 1983.
I would appreciate an address and a phone number of the library that has
these items in their holdings.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Jeanette
