Hi Diana - I have looked carefully at my 1931, 1935, 1941 and 1945 Phoenix city directories for both THOMPSON and THOMSON listings and have had not success finding a "Jim", "Tony", "Anthony", "Antonio" or "Vertie". Sorry I couldn't be of more help. There are some James listed as Jas, but without a middle name, middle initial, or spouse's name, anything is just a guess.
This doesn't mean they weren't there. Possibly they can be found in other public records, its just that they were not surveyed by or did not respond to the directory publisher in those years.
