| Seeking the parentage of my gggf John J. BABCOCK (1818-1907) who lived
| in Camden East Twp, Portland Twp, and Dresden, Ontario. Here are the
| pieces of the puzzle I have so far:
|
| 1) 1851 census of Camden East Twp, Addington Co. shows him living near
| Jacob Babcock and Peter Babcock, either of which might be his father.
| His wife, Lavina SALSBURY is 20, sons Benson, 12, and Dennis, 7.
| Religion is given as Methodist. The record of Benson's marriage to
| Sarah HAINES gives John and Catreen Babcock as parents. The record of
| Dennis' marriage to Mary J. TYRON gives John and Irena Babcock as
| parents.
| 2) John J. Babcock purchased the north quarter of lot 47, concession 2
| of Camden East Twp. from Jacob Babcock on January 1, 1857.
| 3) 1861 census shows him living in Camden East Twp.
| 4) 1871 census shows him living in Portland Twp.
| 5) 1881 census shows him living with son Charles in Camden Twp, Kent Co.
| 6) 1891 & 1901 censuses shows him living in the town of Dresden,
| Ontario. Birth date given as 12-3-1818 in 1901.
| 7) His wife Lavina died 1-24-1893 in Dresden.
| 8) Died on Christmas Day 1907 at the home of his son Charles, lot 15,
| concession 2 of Dawn Twp, Lambton Co. No parentage or place of burial
| noted on death record. It seems likely that John and Lavina would have
| been buried in Dresden (where most of their children are buried), but
| neither the city nor the cemetary has any record of their burial.
| 9) Known children of John J. Babcock and Lavina SALSBURY (1832-1893)
| are:
| a) Charles W. Babcock (1854-1919) m. Mary Ann HOUSTON (1861-1930)
| b) Mary Jane Babcock (1857- ) m. Jonas Garrison MOTT (1845-)
| c) Christina Babcock (1860-1937) m. Ninion Clarence HOUSTON (1854-1935)
| d) Nora Eliza Babcock (1862-1953) m. James A. LAW (1851-1939)
| e) George Babcock (1871- ) m. Carrie WELLS (1875- )
|
| Any and all information is appreciated. Would like to get in touch with
| other descendents.
