My mother-in-law, who lived with us in Canada for the last 20 years of her
life, and from whom I picked up quite a bit of the dialect, was proud to be
what she called a "Mannemer hoop disch" (my spelling could be wrong, but
this and the following gives the idea".
Sonja told me that her mother told her many years ago that you can tell a
Real Mannemer" by getting him or her to repeat the following phrase - " Da
is a Wuermsche uf dem Tuermsche mit am Schirmsche".
As well, last year, were visiting Sonja's Aunt and Cousins in a small
village about 50 km the east of Munich. We were taken on a hike up into the
highlands south to a wonderful restaurant where I had, for the first time I
was able to experience kasespaetzle. On the way up, I noticed something
interesting beside the trail and called to Sonja "Gook a mol."
Everyone laughed when they heard me say that, and I was told that was not
either Schwabisch or Bayerisch, but good old Mannemerisch. I replied
that was ok, they understood me.
