Dear Baden-Wuerttemberg List Friends,

For those working with Latin in German church records (such as those for
baptisms, marriages, burials, etc.), making sense of that language is
often a significant challenge! :-)

You might want to visit the following Web sites which can offer some
assistance:

Latin in Parish Records
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/LatinNotes.html

A Guide to Latin Dates and Numbers
http://www.alsirat.com/symbols/latindates.html

Latin Calendar
http://ana.lmsal.com/ana/ana/Latin_Calendar.html

Latin Primer
http://www.xmission.com/~nelsonb/latin.htm

Latin Language: Roman Kalendarium
http://www.aboutlatinlanguage.com/article1215.html
--------------------------------------------------
For help with German-language records records (the German usually comes
into use in the church registers later than the Latin), see:

German Genealogical Symbols and Abbreviations
http://www.genealogienetz.de/misc/gensig.html

Or, even better, visit the LDS Family History Library online site,
Research Helps section at:

http://www.familysearch.com/eng/Search/RG/frameset_rhelps.asp

[Once there, click on the letter "G" in the topic search index at the
top of the page, and then look under "Germany" for the entry "German
Genealogical Word List"]

If you need frequent help with Latin genealogy terms, you might want to
bookmark the LDS Family History Library's free, online "Latin
Genealogical Word List" at the following Web site:

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/RG/guide/WLLatin.asp

All the above terms and many more are there for the taking. :-) You can
also check the Baden-Wuerttemberg Mailing List archives and do a search
for any previous topic you might want.

Warmest wishes,
