Descendants of WILLIAM BAGLEY I
Generation No. 1

1. WILLIAM6 BAGLEY I (WORTH5, ENSIGN WORTH4, THOMAS3,
ORLANDO2, ORLANDO1) was born Abt. 1760 in Perquimans Co.,
NC, and died Aft. 1820 in Perquemans Co., NC. He married
Unknown.

Notes for WILLIAM BAGLEY I:
Because of the birth span of his children, it is believed
this William had a second marriage. It is also believed
that he had more children by his first marriage. William
owned 6 slaves.

Candidates for all children of the first marriage are
William II, Isaish Sr., Josiah and Nathan, all born between
1775-1794. The other children ascribed to William I are
believed to be his children from a second marriage. Not
knowing the names of the spouses, however, all children are
listed on one page for reference only.

In 1820, there is another male "over age 45" living in the
same household with William. This person could be a father
to William. (Cliff Stratton and Sandra Sturdivant)

There is a William H. Bagley who is on the roll of Capt.
Joshua Bowmans Light Infantry Co., of the N.C. Battalion,
Commanded by Col. Thomas Clark, September 8, 1778. (Roster
of Soldiers from North Carolina in the American Revolution,
by Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. Baltimore)

Perquimans Co., NC, and died in Jefferson Co., AL. He
married MARGARET ANN. She died January 18, 1842 in
Jefferson Co., AL.

Notes for WILLIAM BAGLEY II:
There are five more Bagley families living next to William
on the 1820 Perquimans Co., NC census. It is believed they
are all related. It is thought that Josiah and Nathan are
brothers; Elvey and Thomas are cousins, and Joseph is an
uncle.

William II owned four slaves and was considered upper
middle-class in those times. It is not known when William
died, but it was prior to the 1840 Jefferson Co., AL
census. His widow was living with their son William III on
that census. (Cliff Stratton, Sandra Sturdivant)

Notes for MARGARET ANN:
Margaret Ann Bagley was living with her son William and his
wife Adeline Hough on the 1840 Jefferson Co., AL census.

THOMAS3, ORLANDO2, ORLANDO1) was born Bet. 1775 - 1794 in
Perquemans Co., NC. He married Unknown.

Notes for Isaiah Bagley, Sr.:
Isaiah is thought to be a son of William Bagley I by
William's first wife. It is estimated that he was born
nearer 1780 than 1775.

On the 1840 Jefferson Co., AL census, Isaiah Sr. is shown
with the following persons living in the household: 2 males
between the ages of 15-20, one male 20-30, one female
20-30. He and his wife are shown to be 60-70. (Cliff
Stratton, Sandra Sturdivant)

Children of Isaiah Bagley and Unknown are:
20i.Isaiah8 Bagley, Jr., born Bet. 1800 - 1820.

Notes for Isaiah Bagley, Jr.:
He is said to have had 5 children. He is known to be the
son of Isaiah Bagley, Sr. Both are listed on the 1840
Jefferson Co., AL census. At that time, he had one son and
two daughters under the age of 5 and two daughters between
5-10 years of age. His wife is listed as between 20-30
years of age, and his age is given as between 30-40 years.

THOMAS3, ORLANDO2, ORLANDO1) was born Bet. 1775 - 1794.

Notes for Josiah Bagley:
Josiah is listed on the 1820 census for Perquimans Co., NC.
At that time, he had one son under the age of 10 and 2
daughters between the ages of 10-16. He is not shown with
any wife; it is presumed she died before then. He is
believed to be a son of William Bagley I.

Children of Josiah Bagley are:

THOMAS3, ORLANDO2, ORLANDO1) was born Bet. 1775 - 1794 in
Perquemans Co., NC.

Notes for Nathan Bagley:
Nathan is believed to be a son of William Bagley I by
William's first wife. However, this remains to be proven.
Nathan is on the 1820 Perquimans Co., NC census with one
male and two females under the age of 10 and one female
between the age of 26-45, who would be his wife. Nathan
also owned one slave. This family was living next door to

Generation No. 3

12. WILLIAM8 BAGLEY III (WILLIAM7, WILLIAM6, WORTH5,
ENSIGN WORTH4, THOMAS3, ORLANDO2, ORLANDO1) was born May 20,
1804 in Perquemans Co., NC, and died November 03, 1872 in
Senterfitt, Lampasas Co., TX. He married ADALINE HOUGH May
07, 1837 in Jefferson Co., AL. She was born Bet. 1800 -
1810 in Germany (came to US at age 11), and died May 12,
1861 in Senterfitt, Lampasas Co., TX.

Notes for WILLIAM BAGLEY III:
William III is listed on the 1840 Jefferson Co., AL census
with one male born between 1835-1840, a wife born between
1810-1820, and a woman born between 1770-1780.

We know from family Bible records that the son on this
census is Willis, born 1838. The old woman is William's
mother, Margaret Ann, who died in 1842.

William may have had a prior marriage before Adeline, based
solely on his age at his time of marriage to Adeline.
William was 34 at the time and this was considered late
middle-age. However, no record has been found of a previous
marriage or of any children who may have been born to a
previous marriage.

There is no record found of William in Alabama or Texas for
1850, but according to the Bible records, William had a son,
James Morgan Bagley, b February 1, 1843 in Jefferson Co., AL
and a daughter, Elizabeth, born in 1853, in Mississippi. It
is presumed the family was on its way to Texas in 1853, and
Elizabeth was born on the trail.

However, research on other members of the Bagley family show
they left Jefferson Co., AL for Texas in 1849. It is
possible that William also left for Texas at that time, but
he is not on the 1850 Texas census, whereas the other family
members are. It could be William and Adeline stopped in
Mississippi to visit relatives for awhile. Further research
is required.

Notes for ADALINE HOUGH:
Adeline's father was from Germany. She arrived in this
country when she was 11 years old. This family arrived in
the Carolinas and went to Jefferson Co., AL where Adeline
met William.

CLARK WEAR May 05, 1864 in Lampasas, TX; born April 07, 1847
in Jefferson Co., Missouri; died September 26, 1930 in
Hylton, Nolan Co., TX Hylton Cem..

Notes for JAMES MORGAN BAGLEY, Sr.:
He is said to have been a Texas Ranger (Special Ranger).
The Texas Rangers had local cattlemen keep on the lookout
for stolen cattle because they were acquainted with the
local brands. They had all the powers of a Texas Ranger.
James died as a result of illness on the trail.

Notes for HESTER "Hettie" CLARK WEAR:
Hettie stated prior to her death in 1930, that she was the
only surviving child of her mother and father. She talked
of a time when her father and step-mother, Mary Jane,
journeyed to Fort Worth to get lumber and left Hettie in
charge of the younger children at home. This would have
been around 1861. Hettie said she kept an ax by the front
door in case of Indian attacks.

She also told of wanting to learn to knit, but that her
step-mother couldn't be bothered with teaching her. Her
step-mother has been described as uncaring for her
step-children, and Hettie and her brother James Dabney "JD"
were often ignored. Hettie was forced to use raveling from
the floor and two sticks in order to teach herself.

She married in 1864 and moved away, never to see her father
alive again. Her father died just two months later. Hettie
went to the funeral, but did not see her step-mother ever
again. (Mary Clark Sturdivant, Sandra Sturdivant)

WORTH4, THOMAS3, ORLANDO2, ORLANDO1) was born 1814 in
Perquemans Co., NC, and died in Centennial, Panola Co., TX.
He married Frances D. Unknown.

Notes for W. R. Bagley:
His name is thought to be Worth R. Bagley, since this is a
family name, but it is not yet proven.

W.R. Bagley is on the 1840 census for Jefferson Co., AL and
on the 1850, 1870, 1880 census' for Texas, living in
Centennial, Panola County. On the 1870 census he is listed
as being blind.

Notes for Frances D. Unknown:
Frances was ambiguous about where she was born. On the 1880
Texas census, she listed Alabama, but on the 1870 census,
she listed Tennessee. On the 1880 census, she said her
father was born in North Carolina, but she claimed a
different state for her mother, and it is hard to determine
the penmanship...it could be Tennessee or Virginia for her
mother.

Children of W. Bagley and Frances Unknown are:
41i.James H.9 Bagley, born 1838 in Jefferson Co., AL. He
married Margaret Unknown; born 1845.
