Robert Bean-Bain was born 12-30-1774; m Mary Irwin c1797 in Mecklenburg Co., NC; and died 4-12-85. He was the son of William Bean and unknown wife. (Descendants of William Bean changed the spelling of their surname to B-A-I-N in the early 1800s.) Robert moved from Mecklenburg Co., NC to Jefferson Co., IN in 1820. He and his family were listed both in the 1820 Mecklenburg Co., NC census and the 1820 Jefferson Co., IN census (The latter census also included 3 other individuals who accompanied him in the move).
Robert Smith Bean-Bain was born 9-12-1803; m Eliza Irvin 4-21-1829 in Jefferson Co., IN; and died 3-6-1870. He was the third child of Robert and Mary above (total of 12 children). Apparently Eliza died c1853 (leaving 4 children) and Robert m your Lydia Zener. Robert and Lydia's first children were David and William. This Robert S. Smith was age 46 in the 1850 Jefferson Co., IN census. The other Robert S. Smith, age 26 in the same census, was probably the son of Samuel Bain (older brother of Robert Smith Bean-Bain) who m Esther E. Holden 7-1-1847 in Jefferson Co. (Notice that he named his first child Samuel A.). Samuel and Robert Bean-Bain were listed on adjacent lines in the 1840 Jefferson Co., IN - Republican census.
Richard A. Bain
