Gene,

Thank you for your response about the Catchings book. I am descended from
Thomas Baird and Mary Douglas of the "Scotch-Irish" Bairds. My great aunt,
my mother, and I have been working on this line for many, many years. We
have documentation of almost everything that is stated by Catchings for this
line. However, there are a few mistakes of which I am aware, and I would
appreciate it if you know of others for this particular family group. Much
of this information is taken from Mr. Selihamer's "Chronicle", so I would
like to know if you consider this to be a poor reference as well.

One mistake I know about regards Catherine Tyler who was married to Charles
Baird of Kentucky. They were both born in 1777. She was not the sister of
John Tyler, but she was the daughter of Robert Langley Tyler and Margaret
Tyler. Robert Tyler had a most interesting background that goes back to
Mareen Duvall of Maryland. I have a copy of "Mareen Duvall of Middle
Plantation" that documents all of this. Have you heard of this reference?
Is it reliable? There was one additional child to be added to the Charles
Baird generation that was not in the book and that was Jane Baird who married
Toussaint Dubois. Their children included Jesse Kilgore Dubois who was state
auditor of Illinois during the Lincoln term. He was a personal friend of
Lincoln's, and , in fact, his house is preserved right across the street from
Lincoln's house in Springfield.

As far as I know, these are the only errors in this line, but I would
appreciate it if you would tell me if there is something I don't know. It
has always been our practice to validate these genealogy books with actual
documentation. I know there must be many, many mistakes in various ones. I
tend to use them as a guide to find the actual documentation.

In addition, I would appreciate it if you would let me know what
Baird/Beard/Bard book that you consider to be the very best and most accurate
because I would really like to see if I can find a copy.

Best regards,
Linda Leebron
