How about the other way around?
Before the survey of 1772, Tryon County, NC (created in 1769; so this would
hold true for predecessors) included all of York, Chester, Spartanburg and
some other areas I can't remember now, of South Carolina. After 1772, some
people who were now South Carolinians continued to transact legal business
in NC for a time.
