Can anyone help me with this brick wall? Francis Marion Beard was my Great
grandfather born in 1845. He supposedly was born in Marion County, or the
city of Marion Illinois. I have been unable to trace him to there though and
think that perhaps he may have been born elsewhere. In 1875 or so he was
living in or near Elk County Kansas. He was married to ?????? and they had 3
children, Eva, Nettie and James. According to family history, he had taken
these children from his first wife and the wife's uncle came to take them
back. So I am not sure if the wife ever lived in the Elk County Kansas area
or not. He was also involved in a horse stealing incident with his brother
Elix Beard, (whose real name is believed to be James). Francis Marion Beard
went by Frank and I have alos heard him referred to as Marion. He fought in
the Civil War as did his brothers William and Elix. I believe there was lso a
brother John and a sister Sarah along with several other siblings. It is said
that the Beard brothers fought on different sides of the war and that after
the war, many changed their names to Baird. Francis married my great
grandmother Grace Ann Stough in Kansas between 1879 and 1883. They lived in
Oregon during 1889 but spent most of their lives in various cities near the
area where Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma meet. There is a picture of his
daughters Eva and Nettie taken in Sigourney, Iowa that belongs to my aunt.
There are also family stories that Francis rofe with Quantrell's raiders.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? email me at ....
Thanks, Lisa
