Subject: IMPORTANT POSTING TIPS...

Important Posting Tips:
It took me quite a while to figure out why some posts don't go through.
(they just seem to disappear into cyberspace, with no return message or
any indication that the post was not successful. (Even though they are
being sent by a Mail List administrator.)

Apparently there can be NO MULTIPLE SPACES!
(I'm not sure if this problem exists with other e-mail clients, but I
use Netscape.)

I was trying to manually format some chart information, and after
numerous attempts to post, I finally tried taking out all extra
spaces... And it worked. Apparently you can post links and addresses (as
plain text) but NO extra spaces.

I love RootsWeb for providing the unlimited Web space for all our
genealogy needs, but I think this situation is appalling: that you can't
even format data or information a little with spaces. Let's hope in the
future that RootsWeb improves on this problem.

So far I've discovered these important posting tips:

1. DO NOT use multiple spaces in your message.

2. Use the OPTIONS / FORMAT Menus (in Netscape) to set "Plain Text Only"
before you send your message. (You can, if you wish, send a formatted
message directly to the subscriber, and then send a second Plain Text
Only message to the mail list(s), for the benefit of all others on the
mail list, and the archives.)

3. NEVER use "Bcc:" to cross-post to the three BARD, BAIRD and BEARD
Mail Lists, use "To:".

4. If you need to send any formatted data or charts, or GEDCOMS, or
.pdfs or Word files to be displayed, and a regular post will not work
(the message doesn't go out to subscribers, and it is not displayed in
the archives), please send the information directly to me, and I will
try to upload it and post a LINK to it on the mail list(s). (Or
alternatively, you can claim your own free Web space account on RootsWeb
and do this same procedure yourself.)

5. If you post a message with incorrect information you can use the
REMOVE page to remove the message from the archives, and repost a
corrected one. (RootsWeb will send you an e-mail to confirm the remove):

If any of the list administrators, or anyone else, knows of any other
posting problems or tips, please feel free to post them to all three
mail lists, and/or send them directly to me.

The three mail list posting addresses are:
