Subject: QUERY INTRO: A Summary of Lookup Programs and Ways to Search
Date: Sun, 19 Sep 2004 05:20:24 -0400

Hi Steve,
Thank you for your query to the BARD, BAIRD, and/or BEARD Mail List(s).

If you are not already a subscriber to the Mail Lists, please send the
word "subscribe" in the body of an e-mail message to one or more of the
following Mail Lists (you can unsubscribe at any time).:

To POST to the Mail Lists send to one or more using the To: field (Not
the Bcc: field), using these addresses:

Along with the standard query to the list such as you have utilized, we
also have several other ways that you can use to search for your person
or persons of interest...

We have a .pdf Master Name Report derived from our Master GEDCOM file
which shows all individuals in the database (thousands of BARDs, BAIRDs,
BEARDs and other related surnames), and is located here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cbard/GEDCOM/MasterGEDCOMNameReport.pdf

Step 1. Click on this link above and then browse or use the search
feature (binocular icon) to search for your query person, and then, Step
2. Post a query (to the Mail Lists- always to the Mail Lists so everyone
can help & benefit) seeking more details about that person from the
Master FTM file. There are no rigid rules, but be sure to signal your
intention for a look-up of this sort by having an appropriate message
subject, such as:
Richard BARD b. 1736 - Master GEDCOM Query

If you have any problems accessing this PDF file, please download and
install the latest (free) Adobe Acrobat Reader application and browser
plug-ins available here: www.adobe.com

We would like to invite you to send your GEDCOM to us. If you wish to be
a part of our Master GEDCOM program please send your exported GEDCOM
file directly to me (the mail list(s) won't accept attachments) so that
I can import and merge it into our Master Family Tree Maker file.

I'm not sure which genealogy program you are using, but there should be
a way to "Save As..." or "Export" to the GEDCOM format. In FTM you
choose "Copy/Export Family File..." and then click on the "Save as
type:" field down arrow to select "GEDCOM (.GED)".

(You can also choose to conceal the identity of living persons, if you
so desire. In FTM this is done by choosing "Privatize File..." under the
"File" menu before exporting.)
-----------------------

You can post your query, and/or search for your ancestors on our BARD,
BAIRD, BEARD Genealogy Query Web Page here:
http://pub.alxnet.com/guestbook?id=1016230
-----------------------

You can peruse our Monthly Cumulative Look-Up List. A collection of
subscriber owned lookup books and CD titles here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cbard/GEDCOM/MonthlyLookUpList.pdf

If one of these books or CD-ROMs appears to be a likely repository of
information concerning your ancestors or your research, please post a
query to the mail list requesting that title and owner for a look-up.
Please also post any results to the mail list so list subscribers and
readers will benefit, and future researchers will also benefit by
searching the mail list archives.
Query Subject Line Example: Look-up: Richard BARD - Biographical Annals
(Curtis Bard)

If you wish to participate in this look-up program, please send a plain
text list of the look-up books and CDs you have in your possession, to
me and to each of the BARD, BAIRD and BEARD mail lists.

You can search or browse the entire BARD-L, BAIRD-L and/or BEARD-L Mail
List Archives here:

-----------------------

You can review the Bard family Web Pages here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cbard
-----------------------

You can check out the BARD, BAIRD, BEARD DNA "Y" (all male) study and
Web site here:
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_det.asp?group=Bard
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cbard/DNA/DNA.htm
You can do your own research and comparisons at the Ysearch Web site
here: http://www.ysearch.org
We hope that in some sense our BARD, BAIRD and BEARD DNA "Y" study holds
promise as yet another avenue of confirmation of data that is inherently
(in some ways) even better than original sources such as birth,
marriage, and death certificates. If we get enough participation in this
study, we can fully expect to show some groupings and trends that may
help determine if some of the BARD, BAIRD and BEARD lines have a high
probability of having common ancestors in the old world. If you have any
questions or concerns about this study, or if you would like to
participate (Group Price: $99.00) please contact one of our Group
Administrators:

We have a 1908 book available entitled; "The Chronicles of the Bards,
The Bard Family" by G.O. Seilhamer, which we fondly call "The Bard
Book." This book was commissioned by Senator Thomas Robert Bard and
compiled by George Overcash Seilhamer, a renowned and respected
historian and genealogist, and has three separate and distinct sections:
1. "The Chronicles," includes possible and probable origins of the
BEARDs, BAIRDs, and BEARDs, dating back to 1191, and the "Rag Man's
Role" of 1296.
2. The "Bard's of Carroll's Delight," which are documented ancestor's of
circa 1740 Irish immigrant Archibald BEARD (BARD).
3. The "Bard Kinship" which includes the genealogies of surnames and
persons who married into the Bard family.

The book also includes many researched but unconnected BARD, BAIRD and
BEARD family lineages, and is packed with early (old world) and latter
day genealogy data.

The least expensive of the available formats of this extensive 507 page
work is; the "Bard Book on CD-ROM," which is a CD-ROM PDF searchable and
printable e-Book (a digital replica of the 1908 edition). Text can be
copied and pasted into e-mails and genealogy programs from this file.
This e-Book has "Speak Text" audio book capability when used with the
latest Adobe Acrobat Reader program, and qualifies for free USPS
shipping to the blind.
Price: $9.95 + $3.00 S&H. To order or for more information, send an
email to:
A sample of this book and its index can be found here:

-----------------------

We hope we haven't overwhelmed you with possibilities and choices, and
that at least some of this capability will help you with your research
and enhance your quest for more information about your ancestors. Our
list subscribers are like one big happy extended family and stand out as
some of the most helpful on the Net, so along with all the capability we
have offered you for your own utilization, hopefully someone will also
connect to your line and will be able to provide you with additional
information.

Please print out and save these pages for your present and future reference.

Thanks again for your interest and inquiry,
Curtis Bard, BARD-L Admin
