Hi all - the following is copied from Todd Bolen and Lois (Bolen) Stange
Book, Vol 1 the text portion of "The Bolling, Bowling, Bolen Family" In
American before 1800, 2nd edition 1997. page 37 as follows:
N Fh1566 Christopher Bolling had a wife Lydia--He granted land to James
Bolling 1743 Deed Book 4, page 149-50 Goochland County, Virginia (175)(1155)
Christpher Bolling shows up in the Goochland County, Virginia, records as
early as 1743, when he deeded land to James Bolling and others. However,
the parcels of land in Christopher's name were nothing close to the size of
those parcels occupied by the Bollings (John I, John II, Thomas, and
William) who established "Licking Hole" Plantation, later to be know as
"Bolling Hall". (339) Christopher Bolling had legal action against him
1752-55 in Halifax County, Virginia. (7) Christopher Bolling received 400
acres between December 21, 1751 and January 18, 1752 in Halifax County,
Virginia. Thomas Boulding (Fh679), James Boulding (Fh273), and Ephraim
Bouldin (678e) each also received 400 acres during this same time period
(575 Christopher Bolling moved on from Goochland County, having received
land grant of 765 acres in Halifax County, Virginia, in 1759. He and his
son, William, appear on the Pittsylvania County, Virginia tax list in 1767.
(339) Christopher Bowlin paid taxes 1767 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.
In the household was his son William. Also on the same tax list was
Christopher Bowling Jr., Joseph Bowlin and James Bowlin (Fh258). (597)
Christopher Bowling Sr., was on the 1767 tax list of Pittsylvania County,
Virginia. Other Bowlings were Thomas, 2 Johns, Archibald, Christopher Jr.,
William (son of Christopher Sr.), James and Joseph. Land only for Thomas
and 1 John; 100 acres each. Christopher Sr., and Jr., William and James
were all from Goochland County, Virginia and also had lived in Halifax
County, Virginia. (693)(421) Both a Christopher Bolling Sr. and Junior
appear on the Henry County, Virginia, muster roll in 1777. But there are
indications that they still did not stay put, since they later show up on
records in Hawkins County, Tennessee, and later in Clay County,
Kentucky.(33)Christopher Boling Sr., was on a list of persons renouncing
Great Britain and swearing allegiance to the Commonwealth of Virginia at
Henry County, Virginia. Also on the list were John Boling, Joseph Boling,
Archibald Boling and Christopher Boling. (960) Christopher Bowling was of
Halifax and Henry Counties, Virginia and Hawkins County, Tennessee. He may
have been a close kinsman to James Bowling (Fh270) who was born 1756 (7)
(85) Christopher Boling and a William Boling are in the 1786 account book of
Thomas Amis of Big Creek. Hawkins County, Tennessee (1155) Christpher
Bolling is listed 1791 Tennessee Deed Book 1, page 64 and in 1794 Hawkins
County, Tennessee. (175) Christopher Boling my information differs slightly
on the deeds in Hawkins County, Tennessee. In 1791 Christ Bowlin is the
conveyee, Book 1, page 64 and in 1794 Christopher Bowlins is the conveyor,
Book 2, page 147 (698) I have someone researching Hawkins and Grainger
Counties, Tennessee for early records and they have found a 1791 deed for
Christ Boling and a 1796 deed for Christopher Boling. Since so many of the
Haywood County, Tennessee Bowlings were in Grainger County, Tennessee in
1805 (William, Alex, Lewis, Joseph, Thomas), I am wondering who the
Christopher is and what family he belongs to (698) it was presumed by all
researchers that Christopher Bolling had died in Hawkings County, Tennessee
after 1790 but not so. Christopher Bolling went to Louisana that part which
became Mississippi. He was a deupty surveyor and his wife was Catherine--It
appars that he lived 1792-1798 in the District of Natchez or the District of
Felicinia (7) (280) Christopher Bolling was a surveyor of land from 1793 to
1805 in both Baton Rouge and Felician, Louisiana. Christopher Bolling lived
in Feliciana County, Louisiana, in 1796. A William Bolling had a land claim
of 600 acres (west of the Pearl River) in Feliciana in 1797 and in 1792-93 a
Catherine Bolling was nearby in Homochitlor, Dis of Natchez, Louisiana. In
1812 a Eli Bolling had a land claim west of the Pearl River, east of the
Mississippi River in Louisiana (1024)(1025). (Todd thinks this Christopher
could be Christpher Bolling (Fh 1566). (7)
The Todd Book continues with more Christopher data
N 1566a Christopher Bowlin Jr. paid taxes 1767 in Pittsylvania County,
Virginia. (154)(597)(693).
730 Christopher Bolin was the son of Thomas and Nancy (----). He
married 1819 Nancy Gilson in Perry County, Indiana. (7) Christpher Bolin
married 1819 Nancy Gibson in Perry County, Indiana (1212)
There is more as:
Christopher Bowlin was on the 1787 tax list of Amelia County,
Virginia. (551)
Christopher Bowling was on the 1782 tax list of Montgomery County,
Virginia (7)(347)
Number reference sources found in Volume II. If you do not have volume II
let me know what numbers you need the source on and I'll look it up and list
it for you.
Please excuse any typos, as they are mine, not Todd's. Can anyone analyse
this data and come up with enough material to show any relationship to
Christpher Bolin b. 1787 who married the Baker? Just a hunch and without
documentation and the differing opinions on parentage of this Christopher I
can't help but keep trying to prove his parents through Bible records,
census, deeds or wills, probate. May be a waste of time but had to try...
Let me know...
