New to the list! A family letter states that my London ancestor was
AndrewBaker, a prosperous tobacco merchant in the City of London in the mid
andlate 1600's (and perhaps early 1700's). Andrew Baker had connections
withthe Colony of Virginia in America and visited that place with his young
son,Thomas. The latter,Thomas Baker, refused to pursue the life of a
Virginiaplanter and chose to be a mariner; the letter states that he
marriedElizabeth Randolph and in later life finally settled in Virginia near
thetown of Petersburg. I have a copy of a will written in Plymouth in
1689for a Thomas Baker, Master of the ship "Elizabeth", that names
sister,Mary, married to lawyer John Bennett, and children, Thomas and
Mary, designated as young and assigned to the keeping of Mary and John
Bennett. Ido not know that this is the son of Andrew Baker of London, but
notes withthe will indicate that Thomas had connections with the Virginia
Colony andprobably died there. How would I find a record of my Andrew Baker
ofLondon? I would like to know the names of his children and where he
residedin London during the 1600's and 1700's. Wish I had known all of this
on mypast visits to London! Thank you! Elizabeth Baker, State of
Tennessee,USA
