"BASIC OUTLINE/PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS TO RESEARCH
BALDWIN GENEALOGY"
by William F. Baldwin, 213 Alders Drive, Wilmington, Delaware 19803

My outline is based on Charles Candee Baldwins Original Genealogy Book
published 1881,
Cleveland, Ohio. Titled "The Baldwin Genealogy From 1500 to 1881".
The book describes in
detail the Baldwins of only one County Buckinghamshire, England out of
50 some counties of
England. These Baldwins where ancestors that settled in the New
England States of
Massachuetts and Connecticut in the 1630's. Who produced a very
strong descendant base that
migrated westward. Charles Candee lists these original American
Baldwins under the following
lines: 1/ Richard Baldwin of Milford, Ct.; Richard's brother 2/ John
Baldwin of Stonington,
Ct.; 3/ John Baldwin of Norwich, Ct.; 4/ John Baldwin of Milford,
Ct.(there is no Wills
attaching this Baldwin to County Buckinghamshire, England Family but he
is widely excepted
by most Genealogist as being from Bucks County). Three brothers: 5/
Timothy Baldwin, a line
of all females; 6/ Nahtaniel Baldwin of Milford, Ct.; and the 3rd
brother 7/ Joseph Baldwin of
Milford, Ct. and Hadley, Massachusetts (this line has the largest
descendant base of all the
Baldwin Lines); 8/ Henry Baldwin of Woburn, Massachusetts and his
brother 9/ John Baldwin
of Billerica, Massachusetts; 10/ William Baldwin of Stratford, Ct.
Charles Candee also lists in his original book the Baldwins of
Chester County, Pa. and
Bucks County, Pa. under the following lines: 3 brothers: 11/
Frances Baldwin of Chester
County, Pa.; 12/ John Baldwin of Chester County, Pa.; and 13/ Thomas
Baldwin of Chester
County, Pa.. These 3 brothers migrated in the 1680's from County
Oxfordshire, England. 14/
William Baldwin of Bucks County, Pa. migrated 1708-1710 from County
Lancashire, England.
Charles Candee's work on the Pennsylvania Baldwins was not as
professional as his New
England Baldwin Line Work. Two other Genealogist have revised and
corrected many of his
mistakes.

"The Baldwins From Virginia Westward" by Frank C. Baldwin, 848 Lake
Street, Oak Park,

Aubrey H. Baldwin, "Revised Baldwin Genealogy" prepared by Aubrey H.

compiled by Charles Candee Baldwin.... Philadelphia, Pa., 1989, US/Can
Book Area 929.273,
B193ba, Vol. 5, Mormon Church Microfishe # 6093213.

As Aubrey's work says revised Baldwin Genealogy. He has corrected and
added to much of
Charles Candee Baldwins work. Aubrey's speciality although was the
Baldwins of
Chester/Bucks County, Pa.. I have not been able to obtain Aubrey's
Books through book loans.
I obtained his work by ordering microfishe/microfilm from my local
Mormon Church. The
following is based on Charles Candee Baldwins stated Baldwin Lines.
Microfish's will cost
about 15 cents each. But the microfishe must remain in the Mormon
Church. You can make
photocopies of the material 25 cents each at the church.

Baldwin Genealogy
Supplement". This book basicly corrects mistakes to his original
volume. There is additional
information. And like the original book, it lists Baldwins that can't
be connected to any of the
main lines. His original book can be found in large Genealogy and
University Libraries.

Other Baldwin Sources that I use:

"A Brief Genealogy of the Baldwins", compiled by N. A. Baldwin, Mt.
Pleasant, Iowa.
Baldwins living in counties surrounding New York City. Can be obtained
from Tuttle
Antiquarian.

"A Baldwin Genealogy 1503-1986" compiled by Emma G. Baldwin, 1985, P. O.

Tenaha, Texas 75974. Richard Baldwin 1 of Milford, Ct. Line,
Zachariah 2,3,4, Levi 5,
Aaron 6. These Baldwins migrated to North Carolina. (I don't have a
source for obtaining this
book)

"Canterbury, England (Province) Prerogative Court". Wills proved in
the Prerogative Court at
Canterbury, relating to the Baldwin Family in Various Counties of
England. Copied from the
original records at Somerset House, London, for Evelyn Briggs Baldwin,
Washington, D. C.
1926, Library of Congress. Wills are all typed, very readable. Cover
1500-1700 time frame.

The Mormon Church if you look under there Surname Baldwin Files. Has a
lot of Baldwin
Genealogies on Microfilm. It also lists some Genealogies in books
which I have not had sucess
obtaining through book loan.
