Subject: [BALDWIN-L] John M Baldwin, s/o Wm. Crooks & Cyrena (Dalton) Baldwin

Seeking descendants of John M Baldwin, oldest of 12 children of William
Crooks and Cyrena (Dalton) Baldwin, b abt 1835 in Montgomery Co, IN. The
family moved to Greene Co, IL, in the early 1850’s; however, he was no longer
living with his parents by the time of the 1860 census. John was living in
Eureka Springs, Ark, in November, 1917, when his brother, Francis Marion
Baldwin, died. At that time, he was living with his son and daughter-in-law,
Alex and Susan; there were also grandsons Fred and John. That’s all I know
for sure.
However, I can speculate on some possibilities. A “John M Baldwin” married
a “Uphaney Eliza Martin,” 17 May 1854 in Greene Co. A “John M Baldwin”
(age 25, b IN) wife “Eliza E” (age 23), and daughter Maranda (age 5) were in
the 1860 Greene Co census. Back in the 1850 census, the family of John
Martin had included “Eurphana,” 13. It seems to fit.
The problem with this speculation is that there was more than one “John M
Baldwin” in the vicinity at that time. In fact, this John M had a nephew
John M who lived in nearby Macoupin Co, a generation later, of course.
In any event, I’d appreciate any leads anyone can give me.
