Hi Roger,
If I were in your place, I would head for the Maryland Historical Society
library first. You can check out their web site at http://www.mdhs.org
which should give you information on current hours, location, etc. They have
extensive holdings on all of Maryland, books and microfilms and vertical files,
plus a manuscript division and quite a few finding aids - saves a lot of
running around when you have a limited amount of time. Another excellent
resource is the Maryland Room of the Enoch Pratt Library -
http://www.pratt.lib.md.us/ It's only a few blocks from the Historical
Society in downtown Baltimore. If you have the time, my next suggestion would
be the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis- http://mdsa.net OR
http:www.mdarchives.state.md.us/ All 3 of these will save you time as
they concentrate Maryland materials in each location. Then if you don't find
what you need there, you might want to contact the church or local
organizations but I have found that the central locations save a lot of time
and wandering around. Once you have the basic information from these 3
locations, then you may want to go to the smaller sites for detailed
information if you need to.
Hope this will be of some help. You will find that Maryland concentrated their
records, both in the colonial period and even today. Only the most recent
county records will not be available in one form or another at the State
Archives, for example. I haven't been to any of these locations for some time,
but found that the staff was helpful and some of them were even knowledgeable!
Also, if you need a state map, try http://www.mdisfun.org and request a
free map and tourist guide to the state. Good hunting and I hope you enjoy
Maryland. Mary

In a few weeks, my wife and I hope to visit Baltimore for a few days in search
of any information we can find concerning Thomas and Sarah and their family.
If you have any suggestions of where we should look, we would very much
appreciate it!
