Subject: Bishopric of Trier

In death records for some of my ancestors in Neu Beschenowa and Klein
Becskerek I find that the origin of many of my people is given simply
as "Trevirorum". It stumped me for a while, but the Encyclopedia
Britannica explained that the term was Latin indicating that people
so identified came from Trier or the area around Trier. I have
recently run into another version of the same thing - In referring
to the origin of some of my ancestors from Niczklyfalva, Romania I
find reference to the "Bishopric of Trier" Does anyone know what
approximate geography is included in the Bishopric, and when records
refer to Trevirorum what area around Trier are they talking about?
These generic references to origins are keeping me from knowing more
precisely where my people came from.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
