I may have just made my first connection and am I excited! In the
townbook of India, I have found the following entry in a listing of
the First German Immigrants of India from 1825-1835 compiled from the
Kirchenbu"chern of Pfarrei Golubinci (?!) :

Schneider, Nikolaus, Bauer, gst. 1.5.1847, gt. mit Heindler, Susanna,
gst. 28.2.1858
Deren kinder:
Josef, gt. 18.10.1835 mit Kopolt, Anna Maria
Georg, gt. 14.5.1839 mit Heger, Theresia, Wwe. des Jakob Heger
Margaretha, gt. 24.11.1840 mit Heinrich, Josef des Johann
Kristof, gt. 15.2.1848 mit Elisabetha, Wwe. des Georg Dibisch
Katharina, gt. 22.1.1850 mit Armbruster, Johann des Mathias aus
Putinci
Johann Evang., gb. 28.10.1828 (India), gt. 20.2.1849 mit
Agathe, Wwe des Haberbusch, Michael
Anton, gb. 28.7.1833 (India) gst. 3.10.1833
Anton, gb. 6.10.1834, gst. 21.6.1835
Magdalena, gb. 30.5.1836, gt. 13.1.1857 mit Gans, Heinrich des
Vincenz
Anton, gb. 5.4.1838 (India)
Marianna, b. 6.2.1840 (India)

I believe Magdalena may have been my great-great grandmother, but
there are a few problems.

1. My great-grandmother recorded her mother's maiden name as
Mary Magdoline Schneider.
2. My great grandmother's last name was GAUS (Gans being an easy
misread of the original document, so not a big worry).

Everything else seems to fit, Nikolaus being a farmer from India
as described by my g-g mother. I just need to trace Magdalena and
Heinrich to Semlin. I am a bit troubled by the Magdalena vs. Mary
Magdoline discrepency though. Am I jumping to conclusions here?

Also, what is the "des Vincenz" attached Heinrich's name? I
suppose this is his father's name?

In another table, the India town book shows two Schneider
families arriving before 1848 - one from Tschonopol (I think I have
located this near Sombor in Batschka) and one from Lazarfeld (near
Gr. Betschkerek in Banat?)

I know I have seen a lot of SCHNEIDERs on the list, but have never
had a connection. Anyone researching SCHNEIDER in Lazarfeld or
Tschonopol seen a Nikolaus SCHNEIDER or Susanna HEINDLER?

Thanks to all the list contributors who gave me to info to find this
source!
