No, that would be "Felder". Of course, that wouldn't be too unusual an
inversion.

Hmmm... he would have been born in more than one field, then ? And
then he moved to a hay field ? :-)
(Sorry)

I would suggest that either it is a place in Luxembourg , the name of
which changed to French along with the official language (around
1918), or that it is a spelling mistake. In the latter case, the only
place that seems to fit is Fledder, Germany (ENE of Osnabrück).
