This is to follow up on the numerous responses to my posting of 2/6/99
on the subject. First, thanks for the encouragement and advice from
those who had similar experiences with illegible microfilms. Second, to
apologize to those who expressed an interest but were frustrated by my
failure to provide specific info about the subject of the films.
The main title of the films was "Ansiedlerakten" (Settlers) 1686 - 1855
to the Banat from Germany and German-speaking peoples from
adjacent countries. I had 4 of 35 rolls of film divided along
geographic lines and then, alphabetically by Surname. The original
documents appeared to be small, maybe 3x5, cards.
The name of the Banat village was not invoved in these records. In
hindsight, I have concluded that these films are of marginal value and I
should be embarrassed were it not for the fact that I am a very, very
green Genealogy rookie.
Finally, I can't resist a plug for my search so here is the village of
my Martin ancestors according to the various ethnic spellings:
German: Setchanfeld
Hungarian: Szecsanfalva
Serbian: Secenovo, Duzine
The timeline back to Grandpa Martin is 1860-1920.
Amen! Andy Martin
