GLORIA, My wife and I just returned from Romania. Probably from the area
that you are inquiring about. Since your uncle came from Neu Arad (in
Romanian it is called "Aradul-nou"), the chances are that your aunt grew up
in "Kleinsanktnikolaus" (in Romanian it is something like "Sinnic-mic"). It
was a small town just across the railroad tracks and south of Neu Arad.
It is no longer a separate entity; it is now part of Arad. I intend to put
a story of our trip on the Banat-D Digest sometime soon. I also must
contact all those that helped me to gather important information (maps,
advice, etc.) So stay tuned. If you would like to contact me at my
computer, here is my address; . I would like to know the
family names of your relatives from Neu Arad. Joe White (Piller).
P.S. For a very good street map of Arad and Aradul-nou and what used to
be Kleinsanktnikolaus go to:
http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Lights/2132/ha_9_web.jpg . There is also a
very good street index for the entire area at that location.
