Unfortunately, due to the fact that there is nobody to maintain them, lots
of the graves are damaged. Also, the existence of these graves represents a
problem from the juridical point of view. The romanian city cemeteries are
overloaded with requests for graves. In the villages the situation is not so
"desperate" and if the grave was with stone, there are chances to find
something. According to the romanian legislation in force, a grave is
rented only for a period of 7 years. In order to keep the grave and to avoid
its re-allocation to another family, each year it should be paid a small tax
(approximately US$ 5) to the local authorities, which administrate these
cemeteries.
