Larry,
"Krs." stands for Kreis - the equivalent of a county. Wiesbaden, of
course, is across the Rhine just to the north of Mainz. Zabern in Weyer
Kreis is in Alsace (Elsass) and you should be able to locate it with a
French map, though it's is highly possible that the name has been changed.
Sorry I can't be more help.
Dick
>Thanks to you Listers, especially Gert Fresenburg and Anita (special
thanks to you two!) I have quickly discovered three whole new generations
of Biebers complete with children, cousins, etc. You are all fantastic.
Now here's my new question: According to what I've discovered so far my
ggggrandfather moved to the town of Bulkes in 1785. Where is Bulkes and
what is it called today?
Also: Two different records show my ggggrandf. at Bulkes and one indicates
that they came from 'Hambach Krs. Wiesbaden' and the other indicates 'Weyer
Kr. Zabern/Elsass'. From the order in which the information is given, it
may be possible that the husband (Johann Adam Bieber) came from the latter
and the wife (Maria Eva Seil - or alternatively Eva Maria Steil) came from
the former. Can anyone tell me where either of these two towns are, what
they are called now, and how this 'Krs.' designation works?
Hope you can help.
Thanks everyone.
Regards
Larry<
