Hi,

I believe the language from Alsace Lorraine certainly worked its way into
the Donauschwabish "dialect" spoken. My mother (Kuehner) was from Schidski
Banovci in Slavonia and my father was from Indjija in Syrmien. There is
quite a bit of "French" in the dialect they spoke. The one instance that
comes to mind is the word "plafon" that they used to refer to the ceiling.

As a sideline ... I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. We have quite a
number of Mennonites (Pennsylvania Dutch) in the area. I feel more
comfortable speaking German with them than speaking in proper German to
someone speaking "Hochdeutsh". Their dialect is sooo close to
Donauschwabish (at least the dialect I know). They also emigrated from
Alsace Lorraine but I guess they went west instead of east as my anscestors
did.

Hi!
An interesting subject which brought up a question.
If German families came from Alsace Lorraine, would their form of spoken
German be affected - high, low or not afftected at all?

Thanks!
Beryl
