The standard method of determining the exchange rate on any given day
for the last century is to go to your library and pull the film for the
New York Times for the period of interest. Crank it around to the day
of interest and look up the table of exchange rates in the business
section. Any reasonable size city library and all academic libraries
will have the New York Times on microfilm.
