Have I got something to tell ya'll! This all happened last Friday....
For nearly 4 years I have been searching for any Ingrisch's connected
to my family from the Banat. I met the only Ingrisch Family in Temeswar
on our trip in 1999. But they are so far away and I don't speak German.
>From Dave Dreyer's list and the Ellis Ils site I knew there were Ingrisch's
who immigrated to the US. I had also always heard my GGgrandfather
Martin Ingrisch lost touch with siblings after they came to the US.
Papa always said he lost them in NY. He came to Atlanta.
Over the last few years I came across a few Ingrisch's listed in the
social security death index- one particular was
"Rudolph and Gertrude Ingrisch" but I couldn't make a connection
and have never been able to learn anything about them or track them back
to the Banat.
I recently subscribed to Ancestry.com Fed 1920 census.
I was busy entering all my names etc - I entered "Ingrisch" -
I saw Marton Ingrisch - well my Grandfather is Martin
and at first I thought - well I have seen that before and almost passed it up.
Thank God I checked - It showed Marton G. Ingrisch, Clara (wife)
and son Rudolph age 9. They were living in Elmhurst NY.
They were from Hungary. It clicked with me I had the death info
and ssn for a Rudolph, calculating the age - I concluded it was the
same Rudolph, grown up and passed on.
So I began to dig. The SSN showed them both living in FL
at the time of death, Broward Co. So I went to my handy state
search site, went to FL and then entered Ingrisch. Wa-la! There
was Gertrude, and she had owned property and also had a Will on
file in probate. I accessed that file and it gave the petitioners name,
not an Ingrisch though.
I then checked for a phone listing and there she was. I called and had to leave
a message on the machine. In the meantime, I went back to the Dave Dreyer's
web site and looked over the Ingrisch's again. Those names were not listed.
I Then went back to my ssn files and the death index and there was a Clara listed,
remember Clara was the mother of Rudolph and wife of Martin G. Ingrisch.
She died in Westport, Cn. Also listed was Micha (Michael) Ingrisch. I then went
back to the Ellis site and searched for Martin. I found Martin and Michael
Ingrisch from the Village of Knees. Going to NY to join their father Franz.
All this I learned on the web in about 30 min's. In a few hours I received the
phone call I have been waiting for.
It was Barbara the daughter of Rudolph Ingrisch. She confirmed all I had
learned. She said her Grandfather Martin always spoke to Temesvar.
But they did not know any connections here in the US and didn't where to
begin searching their roots. She is an only child to Rudolph and Gertrude
and Rudolph was an only child. She is at retirement age, but not retired.
She thought she was the only Ingrisch in the US and always felt alone with
no extended relatives.
What a blessed conversation it was for both of us. I have introduced her to
the web sites regarding the Banat and links to learn by. She never heard the word
Donauschwaben or the Banat. She is very excited and so am I.
I wanted to share my discovery with you all because so many of you have been
instrumental in my research. And I know many of you will understand my thrill.
I apologize for this lenght mail. Never give up.......... Jody McKim Love
