Judy,
Other possible explanations for the 10-year hiatus between
recorded children are that the couple may have moved to
another town for whatever reason and later returned, the guy
may have been in prison, his wife may have had multiple
miscarriages, one or both of them may have suffered from
temporary infertility during those years.
Or perhaps they were like my grandparents who had 2
children 2 years apart at the beginning of their marriage and
then no further children for 10 years when they had 4 more
in the next 6 years. A reason for the gap was never stated
but was likely due to economics.
